Can you believe it is already 2012? There has been a lot of activity over the last year and it seems like time has flown by. Alvin Toffler once wrote that ?you?ve got to think about the big things while you?re doing the small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.? I tru-ly believe that this is one of the greatest values that our chapter offers to its members through the meetings.

Well, all of you did it again? The August 2011

Our program committee did an excellent job by putting together another quality program, and for those of you who made it to the networking time, we had a great time rockin? out on Guitar Hero. It truly is exciting to see the high level of participation from all of you!

We want to recognize two of our members who have passed the Certification test and requirements and have earned the designation of CHFP. They are Jon D Alford and Paul H Rogers. Congratulations to each of these members.

The process to become a CHFP "Certified Healthcare Financial Professional" has changed effective January 1, 2011. Some of these changes are: Study guides are now available only online and testing is administered by Castle Worldwide. There are a number of testing sites in Arkansas and they are available Monday-Saturday. There is only one exam with the focus on Healthcare Finance, Revenue Cycle, Supply Chain, Budgeting, Internal Control, Financial Reporting and Managed Care. The test consists of 150 multiple choice questions and each candidate has 4 hours to complete. Requirements for testing are current membership in HFMA and it is recommended that the candidate have at least 3-5 years of healthcare experience. The Arkansas chapter is offering assistance with a discounted license fee for the online study material and will also reimburse the members $395 testing fee. Important to note that once the license for the online study material is issued, the member has access to the study material for 12 months.

The requirements for the FHFMA did not change.

Members interested in starting the certification process are encouraged to contact Joe Wewers at jwewers.mscb@earthlink.net or Stacie Farnam at stacie.farnam@mercy.net for assistance in accessing the online study material and answering questions relating to the certification process.

Coaching sessions will be provided on a request basis.

Meanwhile back at the ranch...what a year! You name it, and the Arkansas Chapter of HFMA has achieved it:
    Meeting attendance
    Educational programs
    Membership growth and retention
    Certification
I learned a long time ago...if it isn't broke don't fix it. So, this year for me has been easy. Past and future leadership has and will continue to insure the chapter heads in the right direction.

Wow! Where did 2010 disappear to? I hear the rattling of the sabres coming from the beltway. If nothing else, it will be entertaining to watch. However, enduring it is sometimes challenging. That is one of the main benefits from HFMA membership...having invaluable friends to offer their assistance.

We are heading into the home stretch for this HFMA year and what a year it has been to be in
healthcare finance. No one said that this career path was going to be a walk in the park, and this year helped reinforce that! Most have survived the Great Recession and are working towards a strong recovery in their institutions.
